Etymology
From rosemaling + -er; or borrowed from Norwegian Bokmål rosemaler, from rose (“rose”) + male (“to paint”) (cognate with Old Danish malæ (Danish male), Old Norse mála, Old Swedish mala (Swedish mala), from Middle Low German mālen (“to paint”)) + -er (“-er, suffix indicating a person or thing that does an action indicated by the root verb”).
