Science has many aspects that are case sensitive. A physicist will see kg and kG as two very different things. Sure, you could say that kg means k multiplied by the gravitational constant and then people will understand you. But I can also say "Dem peanut butter and 'mato sandwiches taste real good" and be understood. Understanding doesn't mean it's correct.
