From Middle English *Yol-month (found only as Ȝoless moneþþ (literally “Yule's month”)), from Old English ġeohholmōnaþ, Iūlmōnaþ (“December”, literally “Yule-month”), equivalent to Yule + month. Compare West Frisian joelmoanne (“December”), German Julmond (“Yulemonth”).
