Etymology

Formed in English from the Ancient Greek ἅμαξα (hámaxa, “waggon”) + -phobia, the latter element itself deriving from the Ancient Greek -φοβία (-phobía). The etymologically consistent spelling is *hamaxophobia, but that spelling is not attested outside word-lists and dictionaries.
