From New Latin anaptycticus, from Ancient Greek ἀνάπτυκτος (anáptuktos, “that may be opened”) + -icus (adjectival suffix), from ἀνα- (ana-, “up; again; back”) + πτυκτός (ptuktós, “folded”), from the stem of πτύσσω (ptússō, “to fold”) + τός (tós, suffix forming verbal adjectives).
