Etymology

From Ancient Greek γυνή (gunḗ, “female”) + μῑμητικός (mīmētikós, “imitative”); equivalent to gyne- + mimetic. Literally “female mimic”. First put forward in a 1984 article by sexologists John Money and Malgorzata Lamacz.
