Etymology

Calque of German Lichtland, itself intended as a rough calque of Egyptian Ax-x*t:N18 (ꜣḫt), on the assumption that it relates to Ax-x:H_SPACE (ꜣḫ, “to be(come) splendid, radiant, glorious”). Apparently first used in English by Miriam Lichtheim (3 May 1914 – 27 March 2004).
