Etymology
From the same Cree term ocêk, otchek (“fisher, marten”) or Ojibwe term ojiig (“fisher, marten”) which was taken into English as wejack in reference to the marten and as woodchuck in erroneous reference to the groundhog. Woodchuck may derive from woodshock.
