As someone living in India, where worship of gross domestic product (GDP) growth (GDPism) is the official religion, I am struck by the utter bankruptcy of neoliberalism.

Existing research shows the importance of GDPism in the cadre evaluation system, but Wallace focuses on how the choice of statistics to incentivize local officials mattered.
