Kueichou

During this time, an enlarged conference of the Politburo at Tsunyi in Kueichou had appointed Mao chairman of the Military Commission of the CC in January 1935, and since the Party at that time was basically identical with the Red Army, Mao had actually become the leader of the Communist movement in China.

ONCE I MADE IT back to Sanchiang, the most natural route would have been to continue west into the province of Kueichou. Unfortunately, a range of mountains made travel between Kuanghsi and Kueichou just about impossible.
