According to the Qazaqstani representatives, S.Faramarz did not deceive their hopes, becoming a vivid example of a young but established citizen of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, seeking to overcome the internal military conflict with the assistance of the international community, including fraternal and friendly Qazaqstan, which provides economic and humanitarian assistance to this country.

Since, officially, the first migrants came on work contracts, it would, in most cases, take some years for them to get a Qazaqstani passport.

But passing these goods through the Qazaqstani border afterwards was costly as well, whereas purchasing them directly in Almaty meant that no customs clearance would be necessary further towards Russia.

“We are Qazaqstanis, people of freedom who define their future for themselves.” So begins the manifesto “Wake Up, Kazakhstan” (“Oyan, Qazaqstan” in Kazakh) for the similarly named civic movement that was officially launched in Almaty on June 5, just days before the country’s presidential elections.

Looking at this young, handsome and erudite student — a representative of the young generation of the IRA, the Qazaqstanis were changing the prevailing stereotype of Afghans as terrorists, religious extremists and drug couriers.

On the other hand, it evokes completely different reactions among Russian-speaking Qazaqstanis, who profoundly believe that the Qazaq traditional dish is called “beshbarmak” and actively promote it.

In October 2024, Qazaqstan held a referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant in the country. The announced results show that the majority of Qazaqstanis, more than 71 percent, voted in favor of building the plant.
