I'm also assuming that, given the age her mother died at and that she wasn't in the photos, that Lucy Lane, Lois' little sister, doesn't exist in the Smallvilleverse.

In the Smallvilleverse, Kryptonite also gives humans superpowers, so I would imagine it will as closely controlled as U 235 is, as soon as someone reveals to the public what meteor rocks do.
