That he cannot pity her may be emotional ailment on Chester's part, but if, as I am suggesting here, one avoids pathologizing his reaction, then Chester operates as a masculine devotee who refuses to objectify the feminine body; an (ostensibly) able-bodied viewer who refuses to “abjectify” the disabled body.
