Afrofuturist

Afrofuturists sought to unearth the missing history of people of African descent and their roles in science, technology, and science fiction.

Drawing on tropes of alienation and abduction, Afrofuturist musicians have used this idea to satirize media representations of a race-free future, commenting on the fact that the few black characters in mainstream sci-fi almost always portrayed stereotypical white characteristics or “acted white”.

The most esoteric jazz musician of all time, Herman Poole Blount, aka Sun Ra, spent the post-World War II years developing his intergalactic afrofuturist worldview while working in Chicago.
