In support of the latter idea, the work in Xenopus found that Rdh10 mRNA did not produce overt phenotypes alone, but could anteriorize embryos when co-injected with Aldh1a2 mRNA, indicating these two enzymes together are necessary to enhance the production of RA [29 ].
