Auxosporulation

Auxosporulation [is] the formation of an auxospore...usually a zygote, produced by diatoms, which expands to near the maximum size of a given species.

Small diatoms can become larger through one of two processes: auxosporulation or vegetative cell enlargement. The principal means of restoring size is auxosporulation, which is usually associated with sexual reproduction.
