Bemonocled

One day in June a foreign tourist, bemonocled and beleggined, made application at the door of my “doby” for shelter from an impending storm which was already darkening the western sky.

The bemonocled King of the Hellenes became a popular diner-out in London and other capitals during the dozen years of his exile, while his mother-in-law, the vigorous Queen Marie of Rumania, was trying to get him restored to his throne.

Among those so entrapped (not counting the moviegoer) are Dr. Ludwig Schoen (Fritz Korner), a bemonocled stuffed-shirt newspaper publisher who might just remind you of our own Robert McNamara;
