Biosediment

This type of biosediment constitutes the oldest morphological evidence of life which can be traced back over 3.5 billion years of earth history.

Bennett et al. (1991) indicated that biosediment aggregates composed of detrital clay and organic mucus ("marine snow") may be one of the mechanisms for the rapid sedimentation of clay floccules.

The increased size of biosediments probably initiated the process of biosediment oxidation.

The material deposited as biosediment is important part of biogeochemistry of aquatic ecosystems.
