It was rumoured that on a trip home to Barinas, Chávez took a baseball bat to a brother's Hummer. But for all his public railing, he continued letting the boligarchs make money – long as they served him.

The two fastest-growing forms of housing are slums and gated communities, the latter for the 'boligarchs' growing rich under the Bolivarian revolution.
