Ideal Science Inc., which was founded in New York, moved to Austin three years ago, and it shows promise of becoming the dominant player in its niche: making advanced bulletin-board systems for busy commercial Web sites.

AROUND 1993, Lanting was dubbed “Spam King” when he was part of a group on a bulletin-board system, before the Internet became popular.

First it was the proverbial lemonade stand at age six, then a lawn-cutting business at age 10, and a video-game themed bulletin-board system at age 13, but when he co-founded the popular artist community deviantART at 19, Angelo Sotira realized while he may not have set out to become an entrepreneur, the title may have chosen him.
