Badger was the man who did most to popularize the prefabricated iron-front building, employing a prolific designer to turn out catalogfuls of modular detail — panels, cornices, balustrades and whole facades that could be ordered and combined from kits.

“We already sell a catalogful of junk,” Charlie said. “Tshirts, mugs, stickers, screensavers, the works. Enough is enough!”
