Practically, any organ system of the human body can be affected; pulmonary form comprises 15% of all actinomycosis cases and it is primarily caused by aspiration of oropharyngeal or upper gastrointestinal materials, albeit it can sometimes occur after local spread of cervicofacial infection or hematogenous spread.
