Chaoosh

They are under the guidance of a Chaoosh, or Superintendant, a most consequential personage, and generally a Seid, with a mixture of Turkish and Persian in him which no doubt adds both to his servility and insolence.

When the sultan of the genii had read the note, he called out to one of his chaoosh⁸, who immediately attended before him, and commanded him to bring into his presence without delay the genie who had enchanted the daughter of the sultan of Cairo.
