Cobaltine

The observation of Schrauf and Dana, that the same thermoelectrical peculiarities are shown by a holohedral mineral of the same crystalline system to which iron pyrites and cobaltine belong, will clearly not strengthen the position taken up by Rose.

Norway possesses important cobalt deposits at Skuttemd, where be ore is chiefly cobaltine, associated with arsenical and iron pyrites, in bands of quartz-schist and mica-schist, which Prof. Le Neve Foster defines as beds in altered sedimentary strata, while others describe the formation as gneissic.

The massive magnetite ores of the South Dashkesan deposit contain up to 12 per cent of sulphides being represented by a range of 70-80 per cent of pyrite, up to 10 per cent of chalcopyrite, cobaltine, rare pyrrhotite arsenopyrite, glaucodote, bornite, sphalerite and galenite.
