Cryolipolysis

Physicians should discuss the possibility of temporary altered sensation with their patients before undergoing cryolipolysis, and reiterate that while this effect may occur, it is transient and will require no treatment.

Although cryolipolysis is a promising new technology, it is important to bear in mind a few potential limitations. In the human clinical studies, results were most visible in patients with discrete, localized fat bulges. Cryolipolysis does not appear to be as effective in obese patients or patients with excess skin laxity.

These areas remain the focus of most noninvasive body contouring technologies including cryolipolysis, nonthermal focused ultrasound, high-intensity thermal focused ultrasound (HIFU), and focus field radiofrequency.
