Cyberelite

The cyberelite made up of individuals such as Bill Gates, Mitch Kapor, and Esther Dyson emerged from a computer culture in the 1970s and 1980s that denigrated the government's role in the information age as that of an Orwellian big brother.

We are often reminded that while members of a largely Western, male, and affluent cyberelite "amuse themselves in cyberspace, half the human race has never made a telephone call" (Tele-Haves and Have-Nots 1996).
