Cybersynagogue

Our cybersynagogue will soon be in the World Wide Web – surfing the Jewish world looking forward to the next 150 years.

Synagogues, too, have undergone radical change over the past 2,000 years: from village synagogues, to urban synagogues, to suburban synagogues, to exurban synagogues, and now possible cybersynagogues. A cybersynagogue must address the three traditional functions of a synagogue: a house of assembly, a house of study, and a house of communal prayer.

One might have thought that virtual worship space was typical only of new religious movements, such as the First Church of Cyberspace[…]. This is clearly not the case, as [Anastasia] Karaflogka notes the existence of / cyber-churches, cyber-sanghas, cyber-synagogues, and cyber-mosques, each giving the opportunity to its followers to be part of the 'community' when physical contact, for whatever reason, is not possible or desirable.
