Cytomegalovirus

The peak period for the development of acute graft-versus-host disease overlaps with the time during which cytomegalovirus infection occurs.

Prophylactic virostatic treatment with aciclovir did not prevent cytomegalovirus infection in an immune suppressed patient.

Additional study is necessary to elucidate the contribution, if any, of cytomegalovirus to the development of this syndrome and to determine optimum therapy.
