Edgrow

1699, July 29 — This week has produced much rain here; if the same be at Brampton, will not you please to order the grounds to be watered, which may produce good "edgrow."

Very fine Weather—remarkably hot & dry; the Shrubs languishing for Rain, the Edgrew all burn'd up—a fire in the upper Country amongst the Heaths, & they can't extinguish it for want of Water.

Similarly, Thomas Bowen of Tyddyn, Llanidloes, complained to Harris about the 'careless sayings' of a brother called Jones who at a society meeting in Montgomeryshire uttered words like the following: You shall be turn'd into the Clover, and afterwards into the Edgrow which was brought [= ? bought] with the blood of the Lamb: the Sun circulateth in the Blood of the Lamb.
