Espresso-speak

There are the automatic espresso machines of course, noisy little robots that grind the beans, measure (in espresso-speak, “dose”) the ground coffee, compress (tamp) it, and drive hot water at hopefully the optimum temperature and pressure through the compacted bed of coffee, netting a more or less decent serving (shot) of espresso.

One of my great joys each day -- indeed, quite often my very first activity upon awakening -- is making some. "Pulling a good double" in espresso-speak.

Most consumers, myself included, have not been schooled in espresso-speak or espresso history, and you might not be interested either, except to say that many of us have learned to enjoy espresso from a local coffee house, which is why you may be reading this in the first place.
