Fairgrounds

Every year the county fair is held at the fairgrounds; otherwise the place is empty.

It had been rather a fine house once, and had been built for the occupancy of the man who owned the fairgrounds; but he choosing finally to live in the village, had permitted the house to fall into decay, until only a family with no sense of order or self-respect would think of occupying it.

Is this the fairgrounds?

At other times of the year, the county fairgrounds are used for a variety of events, such as revival meetings and high-school graduations.

If the town doesn't have a nearby fairgrounds, then any sizeable empty field will do for a carnival.
