CT occasionally can help distinguish these disorders by showing differences in wall thickness, wall density, distribution of colonic involvement, and the presence or absence of small-bowel disease, abscesses, fistulas, and mesentenic fibrofatty proliferation (Table 1).

In the initial proliferative phase, angiogenesis in hemangiomas is excessive but is followed by spontaneous regression, and the cellular parenchyma is gradually replaced with fibrofatty tissue.
