Ten minutes later the destroyers and cruisers opened fire on the Wolmi-do, their gun crews by now intimately familiar with the island's fireport caves and bunkers.

Machine guns were the usual weapon placed in the fireport, although direct-fire guns of up to 47-mm were also used.

They were fitted with cabin armor add-ons, with fireports.
