Grassoline

Using cellulose from native rather than from cultivated plants (“grassoline”) does not require fertilizer or the petroleum-using machinery to spread it.

This could translate to more than 100 billion gallons (379 billion L) of “grassoline,” or cellulosic biomass fuel derived from woods, grasses, inedible plant stalks, and other potential sources.

If the lab could find these cutting enzymes and identify their genes, they might be helpful for the greater project of making grassoline.
