Gunlayer

In the heavier type of the secondary armament — that is to say, the 6-in. mountings — the gunlayer is accommodated in a seat close up to the trunnions of the gun, and has the eye-piece of the telescope approximately on the centre of the trunnions of the gun.

The gunlayer manipulated the mounting by various movements of the control handles, which were linked to balanced pistons in the universal control valve box.

The gunlayer trained his gun as the aeroplane approached.
