Hollow-fibre

Among all types of bioreactor designs that have been proposed so far (plate dialyser systems, haemoperfusion systems) capillary hollow-fibre systems remain the most commonly used[1].

Hollow-fibre modules have been assessed for their capability to reduce dissolved oxygen to the parts per billion (ppb or mug/kg) concentration range in ultrapure water production.

A hollow-fibre reverse osmosis unit is shown in Fig. 25.17.

The improvement in chromatographic efficiency resulting from the use of an inert packing inside the hollow-fibre is evident from Fig. 9.18.
