Homolyse

There exists in the plasma of animals, both lower and higher classes, certain bodies which will agglutinate or agglutinate and homolyse the red blood cells of other individuals who are members of the same species.

The intermediate 2,2,-dihydroxyethylcobalamin (cf. Scheme 24) could either homolyse to Cblᴵᴵ and a 2,2,-dihydroxyethyl radical or dehydrate to formylmethylcobalamin, which could homolyse to Cblᴵᴵ and formylmethyl radical.

These are generally sufficient to homolyse metal–carbon bonds.
