The Houstonian Hotel, President Bush's nominal Texas residence, is in bankruptcy.

"There's lots of talk about the poster because plenty of Houstonians think the cowboy thing can be overplayed when we really need to be promoting ourselves as a sophisticated, international city," said Dancie Perugini Ware, a prominent public relations executive.

The pianist was Jason Moran, another Houstonian, for whom the past converges with the present: he sometimes likes to find an unobtrusive sequence inside an old standard and turn it into fresh headlines.
