Hydroxytoluene

The Food and Drug Administration earlier this year seized a common food preservative, butylated hydroxytoluene, known simply as BHT, from Life Extension Products in Dania and Hollywood, Fla., after the product had been advertised as a treatment for herpes and AIDS, an agency spokesman said. The agency said the claims had not been proved in scientific tests.
