Icelandick

He was well verſed in the hiſtory of the North; and compiled ſeveral annals, which, though now loſt, furnished materials for the chronicles for the earlieſt Icelandick authors, whoſe works are at preſent extant.

In the diſtrict of Swambiſter, or Suenobiſter, are the ruins of an ancient tower, of a circular form, and about 180 feet in circumference; and once, probably, the reſidence of Sueno Boerſtrop, who was killed by the famous Sueno Aſteriſæ, during a Chriſtmas entertainment in this pariſh, at the houſe of Paul, one of the Norwegian Counts of Orkney; of which a very particular account is given by the Icelandick hiſtorian of Saga Orcadenſis.

He has given us an appendix, consisting of three numbers, the first of which contains a historical view of the translation and different editions of the Icelandick scriptures, the second is a poem of thanks addressed by Sira Jon Thorlakson, the translator of Milton, to the British and foreign Bible Society, together with a Latin translation, and an English imitation; and the third is a disquisition on Icelandick poetry.
