Using CLR types with classic C++ libraries is an example of C++ interop, which is discussed in greater detail in Chapter 12.

Generally, we will want to avoid doing heavy image processing in WPF without C++ interop because of performance issues. After all, we are looping through and applying operations to over 2 million pixels, 30 times a second!
