If attention is paid to such parameters as good labyrinthing, barrier films, narrow temperature ranges, good bearing quality, and adequate torquing power, then a relatively few oils can suffice.

Labyrinthing may be formed by partitioning within a single chamber or by the interconnection of adjacent tanks with high and low gates.
