Leeside

Payload packaging considerations are of great importance and tend to favor low L/D vehicles since these have open leesides with good view factors for radiators and antennae (Ref. 33).

The leeside slope angle of these dunes (Figure 19.8d) shows a wide spread from 1 to 58° (steeper than than the angle-of-repose probably due to intense eddying in the leeside), with a mean of 8.4°.

Therefore, in steady conditions, a mean wave set-up is established on the leeside of the structure.
