Lipofuscinogenesis

The particular role of HSPs as gatekeepers of proteolytic pathways in the RPE and the implications of the disruption of the HSP-mediated chaperone functions in the aging RPE with regard to regulation of autophagy, accumulation of oxidative stress-induced damage, protein aggregation, lipofuscinogenesis, and AMD etiology have also been reviewed.
