Loss-maker

The withdrawal of the Glasgow Central Low Level line, said to be the heaviest loss-maker in Scotland, was opposed by—amongst others—a bus operator, the Glasgow Corporation, on the grounds that the bus services needed in replacement would increase peak-hour road congestion.

The EC says that France's financial support for Fret SNCF (a wholly-owned subsidiary of SNCF and a heavy loss-maker), could contravene EU rules.
