BMW has softened the resonance considerably since we sampled an M3 on the autobahn a year ago, but this engine remains a howler.

The result is an M3 that feels edgier, ready to change direction the instant the driver demands it.

When searching for an M3, look for a car with a record of maintenance that has been performed by an M3-knowledgeable mechanic. Better to have an unmaintained car than one that was butchered by someone who did not know what he was doing.
