In the north they are called bajos and in the south mallins.

Other ecosystems at risk due to anthropogenic activities are the flood meadows so called "mallines". The mallines are wetlands in arid and semi-arid regions.

If climate-change predictions that involve an increase of temperature together with reductions in precipitation are borne out, the result will be a severe reduction of suitable areas for mallines in NW Patagonia.
