Milk-drunk

Sophie had one quick feed for the road and slipped into milk-drunk slumber.

But then she stretched out one little baby leg in its purple stretch-terry jumper, and then the other, and gazed into her baby's rolling, brown, milk-drunk face with delight.

Will I never again watch the pink moon of a nursing cheek, the eyelids sagging under the dead weight of lashes, the dopey, drooling grin of a milk-drunk baby?

Inside the house, I sit on the couch with a milk-drunk Arie and check my phone.
