Mudanjiang

A railway and a road to Harbin ran through this area. Fortifications, machine gun nests and artillery units protected the approaches to the city of Mutanchiang. The Soviets started two simultaneous assaults — against Mutanchiang, executed by the 1st and 5th Armies, and on nearby Linkou, carried out by the 59th Rifle Corps of the 1st Army along with the tanks of 75th Tank Brigade.
