Nectarivory

Lower dipteran adults are predominantly penetrative or surface fluid feeders, frequently expressed as nectarivory, which sometimes is combined with the consumption of pollen or vertebrate blood (Fig. 9.3).

Thus, nectarivory as a specialized diet is rare among parrot species and occurs in only a few isolated branches of the parrot phylogeny.
